Welcome to the 2007-2008 edition of the British Columbia Secondary Schools' Rugby Union website. Our organization is committed to promoting the game of rugby as well as improving the standard of play within its members schools throughout the province. It is dedicated to fostering sportsmanship and fair play among its athletes. It also assists in the organization of league competition, tournaments, and tours as well as other related activities and programs.

From early March through three months of league competition and playoffs, each zone will determine its representatives to the Provincial Championship Tournaments held in late May. This will be the culminating event of the season, and will feature thirty-two teams from around the province - sixteen at the AAA level and another sixteen at the AA level. Over four days and a total of sixty-four games, two Provincial Champion teams will be decided. It is a widely recognized showcase of high calibre school rugby.

Another highlight of the season will be the Invitational 'Sevens' Tournament held in April and hosted by St. George's School. Over two days, competition among sixteen teams will provide a festival of entertaining rugby.

We believe in recognizing and rewarding our top student-athletes. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating students who show excellence in rugby and success in their curricular studies, and who demonstrate strong character, citizenship and leadership within both school and community.

Perhaps more than any other athletic endeavour at the high school level, our sport affords the opportunity for players to travel and compete internationally. Rugby tours are not holidays, they are a unique experience. They epitomize all that is important in the game: loyalty, tolerance, determination and team spirit. There is the challenge of pitting strength and skill against an unknown opposition. Tours provide a sudden expansion of responsibilities. Players now represent their families, their community, their province and their country. They become ambassadors, displaying their colours to a wider and more critical audience. Tours demand self-discipline, commitment to the team, and behaviour within the confines of set rules. All demands that will test any young man. However, it is not all responsibility. Tours are times of concentrated enjoyment. Great fun. New places. Different people. A fund of wonderful memories, for life. All bonded with a common thread - rugby.

Over the past years, our schools have hosted, or travelled to compete against, teams from many other Canadian provinces, states south of the border, Europe, South America, Japan, Southeast Asia, as well as the rugby strongholds of Australia and New Zealand.

We hope that you will find this website both informative and useful.
